Saturday, December 31, 1988

Mom woke me around 10:30am.  Dad drove me and Mom to Granite.  Stopped by bank first.  Dad talked of truck driving.  Got to Grandma’s.  Dad stayed at Grandma’s.  We 3 went to Jack in the Box.  To hobby shop.  Saw Shuttle model.  To Hobby Hut.  Went to K-Mart.  To Grandma’s.  Sat there for 1+ hours.  Went by Amtec, then home.  Sleeted a little.  Got home.  Called Jeremy.  Oh, stopped by Reban’s in New Athens.  Ate hamburger.  Snowed hard, around 2-4”.  Darrin came by.  Went to Jeremy’s.  Harry and DeAnn there.  Aaron came by.  Aaron and Jeremy got chips.  Aaron left.  We 5 watched MTV and played pool.  Sloppy Joe, potato chips, soda!  Harry and DeAnn left around 9:30pm.  Harry broke a $2 bottle of wine.  Had small snowball fight.  Played Chopper Lift.  Pool.  Went to Juanita’s for food.  Grandma and Grandpa there.  Ate.  Had snowball fight with Jimmy.  Got coat and 5 tapes back from Jeremy.  Warm out.  Back to Jeremy’s.  Drank orange juice.  Heard “top song of all time” on KLOU… “Lost Lovin’ Feeling.”  “Sweet Child o’ Mine” #1 1988 video.  Shot bottle rockets.  Around 2:30pm Aaron called for us to go sledding.  I was tired, Darrin sore.  Jeremy played Axis & Allies.  Watched videos.  I slept on bed around 4am.  Darrin on floor around 5am.   Jeremy on floor around 7am. 

Friday, December 30, 1988

Up around 11am.  Ate. Walked to Harry’s.  Looked at HD comics.  Gonna draw some.  Played Contra (Nintendo).  Cool.  Came home.  Took Xmas tree down.  Watched TV.  Let Cecil out.  Dad got him.  Thought about O.R.L.  Asked Mom and Dad about ITT in October rather than July.  Ok.  Hamburger and fries for supper.  Mom, Dad and Brenda to Sparta.  Darrin came over.  Played Crossbows & Catapults in kitchen.  Watched sports bloopers, Space Shuttle and David Copperfield.  Darrin left around 11pm.  Gonna do TAYE now.  Boring/wasted day.  Played guitar.

Thursday, December 29, 1988

Up around 10am.  Darrin called.  Called Darrin.  Ate.  Added rooms to our house’s plans.  Darrin came over.  Discussed O.R.L. till 2:15pm.  We ate Hamburger Helper Jill made.  Watched “Gumby.”  Made report 002.  Got TAYE disk.  Watched TV.  Drew picture of launch site.  Ate chicken nuggets and potato stuff.  Went to Darrin’s around 7:15pm with TAYE folder and blooper tape.  Watched that till Joe came.  Played “Masterpiece” till 10:30pm, then “Inventor” till 11:45pm.  Steve backed out.  Dropped Joe off.  Came home.  Dad looking at Amtec stuff.  Just went to bed.  Joe helped Harry clean room, made “studio.”  Roads slick.  Supposed to snow tonight, tomorrow, tomorrow night, or something.  Watching David Letterman.  Will eat, then sleep.  Vacation running short.  Left comb at Darrin’s.   Guess that’s all.

Up around 9:30am.  Made plans for our house.  Dad wired outside track of trains.  Total around 6” of snow.  Sun melted some (roads mainly).  Cold outside (22 degrees, windchill 0).  Ate.  Jimmy over.  Harry and Darrin came over.  Dressed warm.  Went to Brad P’s (in Harry’s Mercury).  Jeremy drove him and Brad, we followed to REC area.  Cobbs and Blacks at the gate.  Went to hole #6.5.  Fred, etc there.  Went to dam (in front of REC).  Lots o’ people there.  Me, Darrin, Harry, Jeremy, Brad P, Brad’s mom and dad, Tim C, Rob C, Shelly B, Serina S and 2 kids, Bart S, Brent S, John W, Dustin McS, Bert and then the Voitas’ showed up with a carload.  Broke watch band.  Harry took Darrin, Tim C and me home around 3pm.  Dale took Jill, Lisa and Amy to REC.  I changed clothes.  Watched TV.  Slept.  Dad got Mom.  They shopped.  Ate chicken sandwich and baked potato.  Drove, got Joe, to Darrin’s.  Played Tim’s deluxe Monopoly.  Then Darrin’s family came downstairs.  We went upstairs to spare bedroom.  Ate, drank, were merry.  I won with $16,000+.  Darrin around $1,450, Joe owed $1,400.  Dropped Joe off around 11pm.  Came home. 

Tuesday, December 27, 1988

Woke up around 12:30pm.  Ate waffles and bacon.  Jeremy got Nissa.  Took Darrin and me home.  Rained.  I showered.  Did drafting.  Watched TV.  Dad and Jimmy home.  Fixed printer.  Started sleeting/snowing.  Mom got home (weather).  Dad done with train layout.  Came in.  Ate chicken sandwich and fries.  Darrin came by.  Went by Jeremy’s for my coat and tapes.  Not there.  Borrowed Jeremy’s jean jacket.  To library for engine address.  Nope.  To Gas-n-Grab, got it.  Came home.  Dad to doctor.  Typed letter and got it ready for engine company.  Went to Jeremy’s.  Jill all night at Lisa’s.  Talked to Jeremy.  Went to Darrin’s.  Discussed “Red Light.”  Brought me home around 10pm.  Mailed letter.  Dad not home yet.  Snowing a little.  Slick, around 4” of snow.  Supposed to stop now but freeze overnight.  Cool!  Gonna start drafting our house. 

Monday, December 26, 1988

Up around 9am.  Got Darrin around 10:15am.  I drove us to Belleville.  Rained.  We were dressed nicely.  Got drafting set.  Couldn’t find Space Shuttle.  Went to Children’s Palace, Venture, Target, 2 hobby shops, no Space Shuttle.  Ate at McDonald’s by racetrack.  Talked “Red Light.”  Used gift certificates.  Got home, Jeremy and Nissa came by.  Jeremy took Nissa home.  Jeremy, Darrin and I to Jeremy’s (Jeremy driving Dave’s car).  Saw Aaron S.  Took Aaron to Gas-n-Grab.  Got Nissa.  Got Aaron H.  Dropped Aar S off.  Took Nissa to Pizza Hut.  To Wal-Mart (Jeremy in turtleneck).  To McDonald’s.  Used last gift certificates.  Saw girl that used to come to Dairy Queen.  Chatted a little.  Went to Criminal Road.  Jeremy got glass in eye.  Went to Jeremy’s.  His parents in Belleville.  Watched MTV.  Nissa came over.  Brought deep pan large hamburger, mushroom and pepperoni pizza.  Ate it.  Got sauce on shirt.  Talked.  Looked at yearbooks.  Jeremy took her home at 12am.  My coat and tapes were in Dave’s car.  Watched David Letterman and Late Night with Bob Costas.  I was on the bed, Jeremy and Darrin on the floor.  Fell asleep around 2:30am.  Had scary dreams.  Jeremy too.  We “talked” to each other in our sleep, so said Darrin.  Guess I’ll go draft.

Sunday, December 25, 1988

Xmas!!!  Woke around 8:30am.  Showered.  Opened presents.  Got color light (cool), sweater, pants, 25 disks, $50 bond, green oil thing, etc.  Dressed in new sweater and slacks for church.  All went.  Grandma fell asleep.  Ate chicken and dumplings.  Oh, Kay got Heckle and Jeckle around 9:15am.  People came around 2pm.  Opened presents.  Ate.  Watched Matt and Jimmy’s RC cars.  Darrin came by.  Cool out.  Doolittles left.  Mom, Dad and Grandma to Granite.  Ate.  Jill cleaned bird cage, etc.  4 babies to Dave’s.  Went to Darrin’s.  They ate.  Fixed Darrin’s answering machine.  Steve there.  Mike and Billie left.  Watched TV with George, Steve and Darrin.  Went to Aunt D’s.  To Darrin’s.  Rode around.  Got home.  Got new parrot (Pierpont) and parakeet (Cecil).  Dennis and Brenda are over.  Listened to tapes.  Discussed “Red Light.” 

We had been building our own paper rockets and shuttles and launching them for months, but Operation Red Light was our project to build a plastic Space Shuttle model and try to launch it.

Christmas Eve!  Up around 10am.  Showered.  Got $145 from savings for guitar.  I drove.  Left around 11:30am to Dave and Linda’s.  Heard “Cocktail” tape there.  Ate.  Got belt buckle.  Teresa there.  Saw cars.  Cold!  Dark clouds.  Played piano.  $50 guitar.  Architecture books.  Chord page for guitar.  Drove us home.  Got space info.  Ate hamburger and fries.  Darrin came over.  Played “7 Cities of Gold.”  Left around 10:30pm.  Sorry so short, but I have to wrap Dad, Jill and Barb’s presents.

Up around 9:30am.  Got haircut, short.  Saw Kay P.  Saw Tim.  Might work for Rev Walters.  Ate.  Cleaned room.  Drove truck to Harry’s.  Got disks, our Xmas show (Salanik’s room).  Played guitar (the right way).  Darrin came over.  Left.  Slept.  Mom home around 5:10pm.  Ate pizza.  Darrin got me.  Cashed check at Sparta.  Darrin bought me a cone at Hardees.  Went to Alligator.  Saw $139 guitar.  Darrin went to Lisa’s.  I practiced hammering.  Dad and Mom ate with Dennis and Brenda.  Dad worked on trains in garage.  Darrin got back.  I drove us to Criminal Road.  Sang.  Lightning/thunder, came home around 10:40pm.  Gonna listen to tape.

Up around 11:30am.  Rained all day.  Jeremy, Aaron and I went to Belleville.  Saw “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.”  Good.  Came home.  Gonna get haircut tomorrow.

Tired!  Drove Jill.  Talked to Harry and DeAnn.  Jeremy and Harry gave me a Xmas card.  Scholar Bowl.  Cookies there.  Home room, talked.  Did 1040A test again in Con Ed.  I got 49/49 on tax test.  Goofed off.  Watched Henry II in English.  Crawled on floor.  Left early.  Reviewed, worksheet, piñatas by art room in Spanish.  Got LR leg of ram.  Candy.  Ate 1^st lunch period.  Chicken and noodles.  Not too fun.  Watched “Stand and Deliver” with Derwort’s class in Danford’s 4^th hour.  Study hall 5^th hour.  Darrin filled Xmas cards.  Harry and Barb at our table.  Looked at magazine.  Ton o’ people (junior high) in there too.  Study hall PE.  Jeremy and Nissa going out.  Sat back while Jeremy, Nissa, Michelle G, Harry, Barb and Darrin goofed.  Took Harry here, got guitar and amp, to Harry’s.  Got his music stuff.  Went to flower shop.  Grandma came.  Harry got balloons and 6 roses for DeAnn manana.  Went to school.  Detention was going on.  We set up.  Mr S had 2 mic stands, amp and mixer.  Started around 3:30pm.  Taped (audio and video).  FG there, Barb too.  Took guitar/amp (everything else stayed).  Ran Harry home, Barb home, saw Darrin (talked), to Harry’s.  He ate.  Took him to school for basketball Trico game.  Came home.  Practiced the 5 songs.  Played tape for Jill.  Ate thick pizza.  Accepted to SIUC.  Grandma Hancock sent me a letter.  Responded.  Played tape for Mom.  Practiced.  Darrin came over.  Mom to Sparta.  Saw wreck by REC area (white car hit deer or something).  Messy!  Went to Darrin’s.  Ate peanut brittle.  Wrapped Darrin and Jeremy’s Space Shuttle coins.  Fixed DeAnn’s McDonald’s thing.  Windy out.  Darrin wrapped stuff.  Got 4 paper tubes.  Came home around  8pm.  Mom got home.  Practiced.  Ready for bed.  Gonna eat, study Spanish, practice.  Gotta leave at 7:15am manana.  Guy called for birds.  Tim S got bird cage (I think).  Nervous (in a “can’t wait” kinda way) about tomorrow’s performance.  It’ll be good.

Didn't sleep good last night.  Tired.  Dad took me and Jill to school.  Warmer out.  Scholar Bowl.  Nissa gave us Xmas cards.  Jeremy made Xmas cards for everyone.  Tax test in Con Ed.  Easy.  She yelled at us about 1040A's.  Ch 16 for manana.  Watched Henry II in English.  Talked in Spanish.  Did problems all hour in Physics.  Spaghetti lunch.  Designed Darrin's house in study hall.  Ping pong in PE.  Rode home with Darrin.  Slept 3:30-4pm.  Jeremy and Nissa got me.  Kerri followed.  Watched "Evil Dead II."  Pretty good.  Got home.  Mom worked late.  Darrin came over.  I drove to Belleville.  Went to girls (Darrin knows).  Mall, McDonald's.  Got $5 book for DeAnn.  Came home.  Tim came over.  Sorry so short, but I'm tired.

Sunday, December 18, 1988

Up around 11am.  Mom wrapped presents.  Went to Grandma and Grandpa's from 12-12:30pm for chicken for Jill.  Mom said, "Get a haircut this week!"  Nice out, around 40-45 degrees.  Ate pork chops.  Jimmy over.  Dad took train board down.  Jeremy had Xmas at his house.  I straightened up shelves drawer, put college info in file cabinet, took bag o' stuff to attic.  Played guitar all day.  Family went to Jill's Xmas band concert from 3-3:45pm.  Watching "Family Ties" now, the 3rd part of Steven's heart attack.  He lived!  Put printed in FS-2000.  Kay didn't pick up bird cage.  Listened to tapes.  Slept a little.  Gonna watch "Very Brady Xmas."  Tax test tomorrow.  Not much happened today, so bye!

Up around 10:30am.  Showered.  Mom went shopping.  Cleaned.  Played 5 songs for Wed.  Put clean sheets on bed.  Got Space Shuttle coins.  Called Jeremy and FG (Fat Guy).  Ate hamburger.  Tired (too much sleep last night).  Brent B (in Bronco), FG and Jeremy picked me up around 12:50pm (supposed to be 12:30pm).  Stopped by 7-11.  Got Starburst and Slurpee (Coke).  Drove around for Swing City in Collinsville.  Stopped at Dominoes, FG asked where it was.  Cold out.  Found it.  Tons o' guitars, keyboards, mixing boards, etc.  Brad looked at electric Yamaha drums.  We left.  To Toy Chest in Fairview.  Saw Disco Fever 3-piece luggage, Million Dollar Man bank, CHiPs figures, etc (going out of business sale).  Jeremy got stuffed horse doll for Carmelita.  Then to B&G.  Brad saw Roland stuff he liked.  Brent got mad.  Supposed to be home by 5pm, got home around 5:25pm.  Called Joe and Aaron.  Played guitar.  Dad taking train apart (to garage).  Grandma and Grandpa here.  Finally, Jeremy came over around 6:45pm.  Watched "This Old House."  Went to Darrin's.  Carmelita in Sparta.  Darrin's brother finally called.  Jeremy (drove car) took Darrin and me to the movies.  Got tickets.  To Burger King.  To McDonald's.  Fat lady.  Cop.  Silly mood.  Got to show.  Sat down.  Saw "Naked Gun" at 9:20pm.  Funny!  Super-good.  Tired after it.  Came home.  Dropped Darrin off.  Got gas at Gas-n-Grab.  Glenn, Mark, ? and Wade pulled up.  Jeremy brought me home.  Darrin here.  Jeremy went home.  Darrin and I drove around and talked.  Went by Jay S's old house (burned).  Finally brought me home.  He went to VFW (Sparta), then to Mike and Billie's.

No one here.  Jill and I rode with Harry and Grandma.  DeAnn sad, gave everyone Christmas cards.  Sat on stage (no Scholar Bowl).  Home room.  Brad and I did handshake.  Jeremy took college day.  Mike gone.  Aaron’s quit Krogers.  Talked with Glenn in Con Ed.  Reviewed for tax test.  Reading hour 2^nd hour.  Read “Red Storm.”  Darrin, Aaron and I goofed off in back.  She yelled at us.  Jay S sang at end of hour.  Mr Salanik played guitar.  It was cool!  Xmas soon!  Had Spanish test.  Learned family members.  Did notes and problems in Physics.  Did spring test.  It was sad!  Hotdog, Mac and cheese (and Tim’s) for lunch.  Got full!  Mr Slagley walking around.  Tim wore disco shirt.  Looked at mag in study hall.  Rested.  Sat on mats in PE.  Harry and I hit 150 times (badminton).  Tim’s the champion.  Darrin took Lisa to grade school.  Then took Harry home, me and DeAnn.  Watched “Gumby” reruns.  Harry and Grandma got me around 3:10pm.  Went to high school.  Took instruments to Mr Salanik’s room.  Played till 5pm.  Had Barb F and Susan B there.  Learned “Oh Holy Night”, “Jingle Bells”, “Silent Night”, “Groovy Love” and “Old Time Rock & Roll” for next Wednesday.  Jeremy took Harry home, back (and Joe).  Barb, Mr Salanik and I talked (he kept my thick white pick).  He showed me the way to play.  Jeremy got me and Barb.  To Barb’s house.  Stopped bus.  Barb left.  Took junk to Harry’s.  Cold out.  Talked to Doolittles.  Juanita and Jimmy there.  Jeremy talked to Big Harry.  Darrin called.  Left.  Took guitar home.  Dad worked today.  Went to Jeremy’s.  His parents went to Waterloo.  Darrin got us around 6:30pm in truck.  Cashed check at Sparta.  Went to smorgasbord (too expensive), then to Mama Mia’s.  Ate.  Full.  Spent $7.35 there!  Borrowed $2 from Darrin.  Rode around.  Went to Jeremy’s.  Barb H and Dave there.  They left.  We watched TV.  Darrin took me home (Jeremy on phone (with Nissa?)) around 10:05pm.  Jill up.  Mom at Belleville.  Guess that’s all.

Cool out.  Dad took me and Jill.  Went to office with Mike.  Then to Scholar Bowl.  Got new schedules.  No games till January.  Went to home room.  Talked about last night.  Con Ed, went over 1040A forms.  Glenn gave me a Halls.  In lit, we read aloud, watched SAT.  Boring!  Reviewed in Spanish.  Did worksheet.  Talked about Duracell contest and satellites (wasted time) till 11:34am.  Went to lunch.  Got Christmas turkey dinner.  Old folks started showing up.  Had fun at lunch with Nissa, etc.  Got full!  Left around 12:01pm.  To Physics.  Did problems.  Then to study hall.  Had Max-laughs all day.  Practiced Ermes in study hall.  Made numbers.  Know whole alphabet now.  Watched Mr Salanik sing Xmas songs on stage to old folks.  Helped Opal set chairs in library.  Grandma and Grandpa didn’t come to school.  Badminton in PE.  Then ping-pong.  Harry busted ping-pong ball.  Rhonda and I talked about Jeremy going out with Carmelita.  Had fun.  After school, Harry brought Mr Salanik’s DX-27 to Darrin’s car in teacher parking lot.  Took to Harry’s.  Came here.  Dad’s taping 8-tracks with my stereo in dining room.  Watched TV.  Grandma took me to Sparta around 3pm.  Took my car keys to Mom (she lost hers).  She had to meet Carol at the Mall around 4:30pm.  Dad to St Louis.  Then Grandma and I went to Hardees.  Got 2 roast beefs and a cone.  Went by Brad’s, not there.  Got home.  Dad home.  Ate.  Watched TV.  Got out down coat.  Walked (with guitar and amp) to Harry’s around 6pm.  Joe there.  Harry doesn’t like the DX-27.  Played “Groovy Love” and Def Leppard songs.  Brad showed up.  We left around 7:10pm.  Went to Brad’s (Joe and I).  Played guitars there, sucked!  Goofed around.  Made up Cool-guy handshake.  Amy here.  Juanita made caramel corn and gave us some.  Got ready for bed.  Tim called.  Mom home now, gonna study.

I’m tired!  Mom and Dad ate out.  Joe called.  Dad took Jill and me to school.  Talked with Jeremy.  To Scholar Bowl.  All sports.  Then to home room.  Talked.  Went to Con Ed.  Went over 1040A with overhead.  Watched SAT thing in Lit.  It was DUMB!  Talked in Spanish.  Did problems in Physics.  Jeanette got yelled at by Mrs Ascherman after Physics.  Had APP for lunch.  Wild today.  Acted silly with Nissa.  Studied for badminton test in study hall.  Holly there.  6^th hour in commons.  Took test.  Cheated with Harry and Darrin.  Then did Con Ed with Darrin, Glenn, Barb and Michelle.  Harry there, too.  Dropped Scott (sore neck) off, then me (gave Guns-n-Roses to Brad).  Played F-15.  Watched TV.  Grandma and Grandpa came down.  They left.  Dad cooked eggs, biscuits, potatoes.  Mom had office party.  Brad and Jimmy came over.  Watched Brad’s edited “Welcome to the Jungle Homecoming Week” video.  Cool.  He drove us to Darrin’s.  Taped there.  Darrin ate.  Watched video downstairs.  Roots having shelves built in basement.  Left.  Taped me hitchhiking on Peabody.  Then to town.  Drove to Sparta.  I taped.  By Dairy Queen.  Taped in Hardees drive-thru, to Krogers (wouldn’t let us tape), to McDonald’s drive-thru, home.  Sang about B for a while.  Jeremy had FCA meeting.  Went to Brad’s.  Watched everything we taped.  Taped us 2 seconds every minute for 15 minutes.  Then around 9:45pm Brad took us to Rec Area (supposed fire there, roof blew off, Jay S’s trailer burned, garage (with black Corvette) burned, car in yard).  Brad took Darrin home.  Then me.

Had pancakes for breakfast.  Dad took Jill and me.  Cold!  Wore UAW jacket.  Scholar Bowl.  Jeremy late for home room.  Mrs Gegal there.  Just sat and talked.  Smelled something burning.  For Con Ed, discussed 1099, 1040EZ and W2.  I like this tax stuff.  Oh, before I go any farther, Darrin and I made a new alphabet:

Mom woke me at noon, time for dinner.  Showered.  Got ready.  Tired.  Ate hamburger, mac and cheese with family and Grandma Hancock.  Then put chair pads in FS-2000.  Jill’s party was supposed to be at 2pm.  Played Space Shuttle in FS-2000.  Jimmy came down.  Grandma and Grandpa next.  Then Doolittles around 2:30pm.  Harry got DeAnn.  Showed everyone my TV extension for FS-2000.  Jimmy played Pitfall II.  Happy birthday Jill, Happy 15^th!  Jill opened presents.  Got $35, diamond earrings, manicure set, unicorn thing, bracelet.  Ate cake, ice cream.  Harry sick.  We all watched MTV after cake.  Grandpa bugged me until I called Barb for cake.  Jimmy was bugging me!  Barb got here around 3:45pm.  Ate cake.  Doolittles left, Barb (drove) and I to Jeremy’s.  Talked about stuff.  Brad P finally came over.  No camera.  Oh, Joe called to make song, but I lost his number so I couldn’t call him back.  So Brad, Jeremy, Barb and I went to Harry’s.  Got script for “Beowulf.”  Harry and Brad started playing instruments.  I took costume off and took it to Jeremy’s truck.  Just sat there till we left.  Brad dropped me off at home, said bye to Jeremy and Barb as they 3 went to McDonald’s.  Mom and Dad took Grandma Hancock home.  Watched “Inc Sunday.”  Lisa came over.  Mom and Dad got home.  I started thinking about a novel.  Brenda came in.  Mom, Dad and Brenda to Kathy’s Korner.  Jill and Lisa got chem lab and ink stamp set out.  Jill candid taped.  Cool!  Played guitar.  Bugged Jill and Lisa.  Taped more.  They got home.  Ate hamburger and fries.  Lisa left.  Dad’s gone somewhere.  Jill wants Primo perfume for Xmas.  Tim called.  Jill and I tried to make a song (keyboard and guitar), but ran outta tape.  I was getting mad.  Mom was looking for something in trash and found it.  Now I’ll contemplate novel, then listen to “Destroyer/Singing” tape.   So until next time, bye.

Probably the biggest entry yet!  Here we go:  Mom woke me up around 6:50am.  Gave me $40.  I didn’t want to go to Belleville with Darrin.  Got 5 hours sleep.  Showered.  Called Darrin.  Confirmed my presence with him.  Cool out today (30’s).  Went by bank.  Withdrew $50.  Darrin cashed 2 checks.  Headed for BAC.  Got there around 8:05am.  Darrin went in.  Crowded.  I stayed in car.  Saw girl from Calc II class.  Read “Red Storm” and Navy book.  Listened to radio a lot.  Looked all around Darrin’s mom’s car.  Around 10:20am, Darrin, Michelle G and Barb F came out.  Had 10 minutes break from ACT.  Showed them old Calc I room.  Went back to car.  Darrin came out around 11:30am.  Told him about dumb people I’d seen.  Jody, Lori and Brad P there too.  Followed Barb (driving) and Michelle to McDonald’s.  I didn’t eat anything.  Too tired.  They went home.  We went to the Mall.  No parking spaces.  Had to wait till people left to park.  Went in Famous.  Looked for Mom Xmas present.  Went to new card shop.  Darrin got $15 puzzle (2000 piecse) for Billie and Mike.  Went to software store (new).  Looked.  Then to Musicland.  Got Dad Roy Orbison tape ($6.98 (he died just this last week)).  Then to Kay-Bee.  Nothing.  Then to BDalton.  Nothing.  To Radio Shack.  Got $2.69 y-adapter for FS-2000.  Then to Sears.  Darrin called home about Steve’s present.  Nothing.  Got bored.  Followed 2 sets of people around.  Saw Jodi T’s sister and mom, talked.  Talked to Jodi T.  Followed lady.  Went to Spencer’s.  Then we left.  Stopped by Rally’s.   Spent $2.63 (Darrin $1.63).  Stopped by Crown Shoes in Freeburg.  Lady waited on us.  There 30-40 minutes.  Finally got a pair of dress shoes.  Came home around 4:30pm.  Grandma Hancock here.  Blue Xmas tree.  Called Barb and Jeremy.  Gonna get them at 8pm (or 7:45pm (7:17pm now)).  Got green TV hooked up to FS-2000.  Jill played it.  Watched her.  Mom still sick.  Darrin came by.  Showed him FS-2000.  Kay and Tim came over, left.  Aaron called.  He’s going to the dance.  Darrin left.  Mom and Dad to Handee Mart (home now).  Watched “This Old House”, did this.  Gonna get ready for Homecoming now.  Have $20 from Mom for Pizza Hut.  Oh, went by Silverman’s in the Mall.  Darrin got new shirt (gray) and blue tie ($28.76 check (his first check!)).  Well, gotta go now.  Long night ahead.  Bye.

Homecoming:  After I wrote the above, I got in my suit.  Felt spiffy and uncomfortable.  Picked up Barb around 7:45pm.  Got flower pinned on me.  Mom took a picture of us (Barb in blue dress).  Came home, showed Mom, Dad and Grandma Hancock.  Went to Jeremy’s.  Answered door with towel around his waist.  Barb and I sat and watched hockey upstairs.  Aaron showed up in sweater and nice pants.  Jeremy got done.  Cat bugged us.  Barb and I went to the dance.  Jeremy and Aaron in Aaron’s Jeep.  Saw Tim.  He took ITT test and passed.  Got inside.  Paid $6 (me and Barb) and voted for Darrin and Kendra for king and queen.  Got 2 green cards.  Darrin and I the only two that wore suits (in general clan).  Most guys wore sweaters.  Green Homecoming.  Sat by Home Ec room.  Soon, joined 2 tables.  Here were:  Aaron, Joe, Darrin, Lisa, DeAnn, Harry, Barb H, Lori, Barb F and me (clockwise).  Then Barb took my green card and got my glass.  Full of punch.  Drank that.  Had about 6-7 glasses of punch.  Had animal crackers (about 7-8 bowls).  Had zoo.  Kept one.  Then popcorn.  Several bowls.  Barb and I got pictures taken ($12 for two 5x7 and ten wallets).  Had big screen TV with videos, movie scenes, disc jockey with a big setup.  And Tim helping him.  Smoke machine every-so-often.  Harry and DeAnn came late.  DeAnn got stuff on dress.  Misty was with Chad Q.  Aaron, Jeremy, Darrin and I each had 3 Ludens cough drops (stole from Lori).  Got bored.  Started throwing popcorn at glasses and just flickin’ it.  Some got on candles and caught fire.  Dance from 8-11pm.  Jeremy danced (silly!).  Harry and DeAnn danced a lot.  Barb F even danced!  Aaron and I didn’t.  Juanita, Jimmy, and Grandma Watson came for crowning ceremony.  Juanita took pictures of Barb and me.  Told me to dance with Barb.  Everyone gathered around open commons area for ceremony.  Aaron and I went to talk to Tim operating spotlight.  Went back and sat down.  Dancing resumed.  After last dance, everyone gathered around.  After a lot of talking, decided we’d go to Pizza Hut.  So, cold as it was, I dropped Barb off, then Carmelita, then Jeremy.  Got Joe.  Came home.  He played with FS-2000, I changed into a sweater.  Went by Barb’s.  Saw Wade get pulled over.  Saw Jeremy in MG, said we’d meet him at Pizza Hut.  Got there (heard Guns-n-Roses on the way there), full with Marissa people.  Tim, Fred M and Aaron waiting to be seated.  Jeremy and Carmelita showed up.  Watched Conly play video games.  Aaron, Fred and Glenn seated themselves.  Then I sat myself by Aaron and Charity.  Harry and DeAnn were leaving when I got there.  Soon people started leaving.  We were waited on.  Aaron, Fred and Glenn left.  Sat with Barb, Joe, Carmelita, Jeremy and Tim in corner.  Stole footprint from window.  Soon, 2 pitchers came (one for us, one for Tim).  Then 2 breadsticks (Tim and me).  Then deep pan hamburger (Tim), then 2 hand-tossed combos (us, Jeremy-Carmelita).  We ate a little.  Threw cheese on the window.  Barb danced on table to Kokomo.  Had pretty good time.  Carmelita laughed a lot.  Then paid $2 to me (used for tip).  Finally got to car.  Cold out!!!  Told Jeremy I’d meet him in town.  Tim left with carload of guys.  I followed and passed him.  Drove home around 65-70mph.  Right before Tilden T he started passing.  I floored it.  Got to 80.  He slowly passed me.  I think he has a V-8.  Went back road home.  Saw Tim on White Oak.  Dropped Barb off, then Joe.  Went to Darrin’s.  Asleep.  I was supposed to get him around 12am (he and Lisa left after the dance).  Went by Glenn’s shed.  No one.  By Mark’s (Wade and Glenn there).  Couldn’t find Aaron, so found Jeremy.  Told him I was coming home.  Passed Tim a couple of times.  Got home around 1:38am.  Undressed.  Put napkin and cracker in senior drawer.  Lost my flower (MAD)!  Watched Three Stooges.  Fell asleep around 2am.  That was my senior homecoming: Welcome to the Jungle.  All and all I had fun.  Oh, Juanita got some pictures of Barb and me in straw hut by door when we were leaving.  Guess that’s about it.  It’s now 1:16pm, Sunday.  Hasta la vista.

Nervous about Jungle Dance.  This is a LONG entry!  Okay, Mom and Dad ate breakfast.  Jeremy drove me in truck.  No Scholar Bowl.  Almost everyone wore senior shirts.  Aaron went deer hunting.  Mr Rushing gone, Mrs Heyl sub.  Had home room.  Then to Con Ed (in typing room).  Reading hour.  Read “Red Storm.”  Lotta people left to do stuff.  Oh, got jungle hats in home room.  Paid $1 (borrowed from Jeremy.)  Mercer tried to talk, had quiz, Mike “bought” me a Coke, drew on hats.  Fun.  Had Spanish test.  Read aloud.  Mr Wilson sub for Danford.  Sat around.  Jeremy played badminton tournament.  DeAnn, Harry and I talked.  Lunch, ate hamburger and fries.  Had senior favorites pictures taken.  Got things ready 5^th hour for “dance.”  Fun.  Then 6^th hour, the pep assembly.  Jeremy and I sat up with spotlight.  The cheerleaders (Misty, Jenny P, Lisa C, Stacey G, Nicole G, and ?) came out.  Banana eating contest (Jody B, Shawn H, Danny D and Cupcake).  Danny won!  Then Tarzan yell (Courtney, Conly, Jay S and Dia).  Juniors won!  Then Jungle Dance.  Freshman (sad), sophomores (worse), juniors (super-sad), us.  Turned spotlight on, Kelly not there!  Waited around.  Then we did it okay.  We won.  Then Spirit Stick.  Sophomores won (twice as many of them.)  After assembly I was hot and tired.  Darrin finally took Scott and me home.  Watched TV, ate, slept.  Mom home around noon.  Ate hamburger for supper.  Grandma and Grandpa here.  Got Xmas stuff down.  Took Jill and Amy to game around 7pm.  Helped with Xmas here.  Juanita came down.  Darrin came by.  Aaron in Jeep and Jeremy talking.  Rode with Aaron (Jeremy and Darrin) to game.  Went in band room.  Darrin sick.  Goofed in there for a long time (drums, etc).  Then borrowed $1 from Aaron to pay way in.  Heard Mr Salanik sing National Anthem.  Good!  Went around back, sat in upper corner.  Harry got haircut.  Had homecoming thing.  After game (we lost 89-44), Barb F, DeAnn, Nissa, Jeremy and I talked.  Then Aaron, Jeremy and I sat around commons watching Student Council build homecoming (looks like Prom last year).  Darrin left.  Aaron, Jeremy, Joe, Glenn and I to sound room.  Kerkhover started yelling!  We hid.  Then ran outside.  Temp was 30-40 degrees, chilly.  Aaron drove Jeremy, Joe and me to Joe’s, then to Gas-n-Grab.  Saw Rachel C and Paul M there.  Rachel came with us.  Rode around.  My house, got jacket.  Told 12am curfew.  Went by Glenn’s.  We rode around.  Dropped Joe off at 11pm.  Went to Kurt’s.  No one.  To Kurt’s shed, no one.  Rode around till midnight. Dropped me off.  They left.  Came in.  Ready for bed.  Barb has two flowers, for me and her.  Gotta get up at 7am, go to Belleville.  Get home.  Dress.  Go to homecoming.  Then party!

No snow in forecast.  Now my nose runs… constantly.  Colder (around 35 degrees).  Drove Jill.  Tired.  Scholar Bowl.  Sat in home room.  Asked Darrin about Glenn and me switching jobs for Jungle Dance.  Got to Con Ed.  Asked Glenn.  No real answer.  Went over taxes.  To English.  She read aloud.  No one listened.  Jeremy and I did stunts in our seats.  Spanish, reviewed.  A little harder now.  Physics, went over test (DeAnn got “F” (can’t see Harry for two weeks)).  Took notes.  Did problems.  Bored.  Gonna play “Groovy Love” in Spanish before Xmas.  Ate burrito, chips.  Waited long time in line.  In study hall, did tax homework, helped Jeremy staple sheets, gave Darrin and Mark trucker language test.  Went to commons to watch Jungle Family Dress-up Contest.  Berny filmed.  Freshmen had 5 people looking dumb, seniors had Lori in gorilla suit and Nissa in Tarzan suit.  Then to PE.  Played badminton all ways (on backs, one-armed, paralyzed, etc).  Fun!  No shower.  Helped Joe, Harry, Darrin and Tim put spotlight on WHCO platform.  Took Scott and his friend home.  Came home.  Jimmy, Grandma and Pepper over.  Watched TV.  Jeremy called.  Got accepted to VMI.  Cool.  Watched TV by phone till around 4pm.  Ate!  Played Destroyer, watched TV more.  Robert-Morris guy called.  Told him to call back later.  Jill answered later and said “no interview, just mail stuff!”  Mom got home.  Mom and Dad to New Athens.  Jeremy picked me up in truck around 5:50pm.  Got to school.  Put book and coat in my locker.  Then match started.  Tasha, me, Jeremy (captain), Mike and Aaron started vs Mascoutah.  Halfway thru, switched sides and Harry and Nissa replaced Aaron and me.  We sat on floor in back.  After varsity game, 2 JV games.  Aaron, Joe, Shelly M and I played with spotlight in gym and sound room.  Then around 7:20pm, after Mike, Jeremy, Nissa and Barb F finished talking (told Barb I’ll probably go to the dance), Jeremy brought me home.  Darrin didn’t come by.  Drove to high school around 7:35pm.  Darrin and Harry in gym.  Joe came then.  Soon, Kelly, and Kendra showed.  Norman was studdin’ around.  Jody came.  Mr D and Marc were shootin’ hoops.  Harry and DeAnn left.  Glenn came around 8:40pm (supposed to be 8:15pm).  Rehearsed.  Now I think I can do the spotlight.  Aaron was soundman.  Lotta stress this week.  Quit around 9:30pm.  Joe was gonna ride with me, but stayed.  I came home.  Everyone home.  Someone called for lovebirds.  Dad has my stereo.  Tried 8-track to stereo, 8-track doesn’t work.  Jeremy had Judo class at BAC (test, I think).  Nissa was accepted to Monmouth.  Homecoming being built on stage.  Trig review tonight.  Read story (short) for Lit.  10:11pm now and I’m tired.  That’s all I can think of, I guess.

Long one!

Nice, long sleep.  Dad took me and Jill.  Rained last night.  Cleared off.  Went to Scholar Bowl.  Then home room.  Got senior favorites thing.  Got tax folder and went over it in Con Ed.  Filled in senior favorites, soda break (I got Coke), and had filmstrip (no one listened).  B+ in Lit!  B+ in Con Ed.  Others A!  Late to Spanish.  Who cares?  Did worksheet.  Fun.  Had Physics test, I turned it in early.  It was easy though.  Read half a chapter in “Red Storm Rising.”  Stayed after a little.  Went to lunch.  Mike at 1/3 of Barb H’s chocolate birthday cake.  Ate hamburger and fries (class A).  Loaned Tim $.50.  Circused.  Jeremy took Beowulf test in study hall.  Darrin and I talked (he filled out senior favorites).  Oh, poster contest 2^nd hour. We lost!  Played badminton doubles tournament.  Shelly M and me vs. Jeremy and Terri R.  They won 15-13.  Didn’t shower.  Rode home with Darrin.  Dropped Scott off, then Stacy G’s sister (Shelly?) at Family Flair for a tan.  Got home.  Played Destroyer.  Fun.  Watched TV.  Jimmy came over.  Watched architecture “3-2-1 Contact.”  Ate pizza rolls.  Called Jeremy.  Supposed to snow Friday now!  Scholar Bowl tomorrow (three games)!  Gotta play.  Nervouso!  I’ve had no practice for spotlight.  I have no idea how to use it!  Anyway, Jeremy picked me up in truck around 6:05pm.  Got gas at Gas-n-Grab.  Got to school.  Put jackets in lockers.  Harry and DeAnn came in.  Talked to Barb F and Michelle G.  I got Quietest (tie with Most Courteous).  Harry got Best Hair.  He has sore feet (went to doctor).  Senior vs. Sophomore, we won!  Our team:

Eric M was there.  Then DeAnn ran our mad, Harry chased after her.  Scooted to other end of bleachers.  Aaron came in.  Then Seniors vs Juniors.  We cheered!  We won!  Joe made a wrong call.  After game, Jeremy, Aaron, and I (in CIA form) got Joe by locker room and beat him up (for play). Others got in.  Soon, big 10-man real riot!  Vollert broke it up.  Went out to bonfire.  Fire truck came.  Brenda, duh!  Smokers.  Had no jacket, kinda cold.  Lit with flare!  Dancing, singing, cheerleading, Berny filming, mascots burning (ours with firecrackers), then the food.  Ran in.  Had donuts and hot chocolate on stage.  Talked for a while.  Everyone had to leave.  Darrin took Joe and Scott.  Jeremy took me.  Talked about Russia and USA. Gorbachev is in USA visiting.  Cutting Russia’s army down 10% (500,000 guys) in 2 years.  And more!  We talked about “Red October” and “Red Storm.”  I loved “Red Storm Rising.”  Got his copy of the book, turned it in to library.  He dropped me off (around 8:30pm).  Amy here (gone now, I think).  Mom shipping, home now.  Dad taping from radio in my room, still on!  Gonna read now.  Guess that’s today!  I liked the day.  Don’t know about dance.  Nervous about spotlighting Jungle Dance Friday.  Got Mike M’s senior picture yesterday.

Slept 2-6am on the couch last night.  Drove Jill.  Scholar Bowl.  Game tomorrow.  I’m nervous.  Probably won’t play though.  Went to home room.  Had meeting in Dodson’s room.  Brad and I discussed “Beowulf” movie.  Voted for senior trip.  Harry in bad mood till lunch.  Tired.  Had ch 15 quiz.  Got 100% (from Laurie).  Started tax unit.  Had overheads.  Mrs Mercer’s room rearranged.  Not straight, but diagonal.  Aaron stole Harry’s seat.  Harry mad.  Saw filmstrip all hour.  Toothpick building contest 3^rd hour (homecoming).  Harry and I are the only ones with long hair now.  Learned lo, la, los, las in Spanish.  He was silly.  Did problems in Physics, worked.  Pizza for lunch.  Darrin, Kelly, Kendra and I discussed Jungle Dance in Coleman’s library room.  Then went out and copied/stapled senior favorite sheets.  8^th grade in study hall again and girls wrote us notes.  Study hall for PE.  Discussed Jungle Dance with Glenn.  Glenn, Darrin, Harry and I went to sound room.  Junior class meeting.  Took DeAnn home.  Took Harry home.  Brought Jill and Amy here.  Jeremy came by.  Went to his house.  Got costumes.  Barbie came over.  Went to Harry’s.  DeAnn there.  Brad didn’t show.  Jeremy and Barb went looking for him.  Then he came.  Harry took DeAnn home.  Brad, Jeremy, Barb and I went to Peabody coal pile and filmed scene 1, takes 1-5.  Got dark.  Went to Brad’s, watched it.  Taped.  Barb went home.  Jeremy and I went to Jeremy’s.  I got my stuff.  Jeremy brought me home.  Talked to me about taking Barb to homecoming.  Think I will.  Came in.  Ate 2 hamburgers, fries, cereal, cookies (I have stomach ache now).  There was a basketball game (everyone went to, but Jeremy and me).  Played FS-2000 (Destroyer).  Watched “Roseanne.”  Mom and Dad at Handee Mart.  Been taping KLOU for Dad lately.  Super-tired.  Darrin just called.  Kelly arrived.  They gonna dance.  Supposed to rain, sleet, snow tomorrow night (Darrin said tonight and tomorrow).  This has been a hectic week!  Bonfire tomorrow (and Scholar Bowl).  Sat – Belleville, dance.  Sun – tape “Beowulf.”  Darrin got yelled at in Lit.  I wish this week was over and Christmas would last forever, because after Christmas it’s solid school, 1 month of summer, then ITT!   Guess I’ll got read “Red Storm Rising” now.  Then sleep!  I hope it freezes tonight and snows.

Watching “Alf” now, so this may take a while…

Slept in living room again last night.  Tired today!  Dad took me and Jill to school.  Got to Scholar Bowl.  Ascherman late.  Went to home room.  No one there.  Then they came.  Discussed worksheet in Con Ed.  Finished ch 15.  Had scavenger hunt 1^st hour for homecoming.  Had vocab test (used words (cheated!))  Boring!  Mr Salanik gone.  His mom died.  Mr Wilson there.  Did sentences.  Talked.  Did problems (on own) all hour.  Had APP for lunch.  Discussed movie (ours) “Beowulf.”  In study hall, we put fish and birds around a tree we found.  Junior high study hall came in.  Girls wrote us notes.  Had 6^th hour in commons.  We talked about “Beowulf” (our movie).  Rode home with Darrin.  Walked to Harry’s.  Barb and Jeremy over there.  Discussed “Beowulf” (our movie).  Jeremy left to dance (caveman) at 6:15pm. Harry brought me home (ate spaghetti there).  Mom, Dad and Jill at Sparta.  I’m gonna play FS-2000, read “Red Storm Rising,” and write a note.  Mom almost hit a deer.  Went to Tim’s 8-9pm for Physics.

We were going to use a camcorder to film our own version of “Beowulf” for extra credit in our Lit class.

Up around 11:20am.  Went to store for spaghetti sauce.  Cool out.  Went to Harry's.  Talked to him and Jeremy.  Came home.  Ate.  Played FS-2000.  Fixed main bedroom light.  Jimmy came down around 2pm.  Played FS-2000.  Doolittes came down.  Harry saw FS-2000.  Ate cake (Juanita's birthday).  Kay came over.  Went to Harry's.  Got on roof.  Got Trak-ball.  Harry took DeAnn to Belleville.  Jeremy and I played Trak-ball at rock piles till 4:30pm.  Played FS-2000.  Darrin came over.  They left.  Did Con Ed homework.  Gonna read "Red Storm Rising."

Watched Ernest (dumb).  Mom house-cleaned.  Watched TV.  Played Tri-ominos, Life, car & trax with Jill.  Ate supper.  Jeremy came over.  Saw FS-2000.  Played.  We went to Darrin's.  They put up tree.  Put train under it.  Mike and Hannah left.  Aaron came over.  Watched Saturday Night Live.  Jeremy brought me home around 12am.  Talked till 12:40am.  Asleep at 2am.  Blew out lights in my room.

Slept in living room last night.  Drove Jill.  Jeremy in Virginia.  Did ch 15 in Con Ed.  Beowulf test in Lit.  Spanish test.  Problems in Physics.  Hotdog, chicken noodle soup, chips for lunch.  Discussed FS-2000 in study hall.  Read hour 6th hour.  Darrin, Harry, Aaron, Barb and I slid on mats, hitting each other. Harry, Darrin and I read upside down.  Laughed a lot!  Took DeAnn, Harry, Rachel C, then Aaron home.  Got home.  Worked on FS-2000 from 3-5pm.  Put half the roof, lights, intercom in.  Played in it.  Jill did, too.  Darrin went to Belleville with Kendra.  Pizza for supper.  Watched TV.  Slept 7:30-9pm.  Talked to Darrin around 7:30pm.  Watched Muppet Christmas.  Watched Saturday Night Live at 9pm.  Aaron came over.  Went to Darrin's.  Came home.  Called Darrin, sleepin'.  Aaron played in FS-2000.  Liked it!  Went to Darrin's.  Woke him up, he was kind of mad.  Billie and Becky also showed up.  Darrin's parents, Hannah and Mike showed up.  Aaron and I left (in Aaron's truck).  Followed Tim until he left for Sparta.  Followed Brad P.  Came home.  People who've seen completed FS-2000:  Juanita, Mom, Dad, Jill, Aaron and me.  Guess that's all.

Woke up, around 1-2" of snow on the ground.  Streets dry though.  Shuttle was delayed till tomorrow.  Dad took me, Jill (wore heavy coat, Dad took it home for me).  Talked to Tim.  Jeremy got a short haircut.  Went to Scholar Bowl.  Sat in home room till someone got us to go to commons (senior meeting 'bout Homecoming activities).  Then to Con Ed.  Goofed off some.  Discussed ch 15 more.  Halfway thru, had to go get pictures.  Got IL State Scholar thing with Nissa, Aaron, Jeremy and Brad P.  Cool!  Went to Lit.  We read aloud.  Dumb!  Reviewed in Spanish.  Jeremy left halfway thru for Virginia (VMI).  He'll get back tomorrow night.  Took notes, did problems in Physics.  Had pizza (a la carte) for lunch.  Circused.  Did Con Ed worksheet in study hall while Mrs D, Darrin, Kendra and Kelly discussed senior jungle dance.  Then Darrin did Con Ed worksheet.  Sat/talked.  Played 6-ers badminton with 30-40 birdies.  Fun!  Darrin hit me in the head.  None of us took showers.  Darrin took Aaron and Rachel C to grade school, me home.  Watched Gumby.  Mom, Jill and Brenda to Fairview Heights.  Still gone.  Got ITT VCR tape.  Got ITT admittance!  Worked on FS-2000 from 3-8pm.  Put computer, TV, disk drive, fan in.  Tim called.  Talked about ITT.  Hope he goes with me.  Ate scrambled eggs for supper.  Grandma and Grandpa came over.  Watched some of ITT tape.  Gonna read "Red Storm Rising" now.  Guess that's about all.  Oh, Darrin to hockey game.
